Course Description for the first level:
HIT109&110( Histology I&II):
Description:
It aims at familiarizing students to general histology; the different types epithelium connective tissue muscle tissue , nervous tissue structure; and histophysiology. It also provides detailed information about the histological picture of blood, immune system and lymphatics.
Course Contents:
First Semester (Histology I. Code HIT-109):
· Unit 1: Microscopy & Microtechnique
· Unit 2: Cytology & Cytogenetics
· Unit 3: Blood Elements
· Unit 4: General Histology:
o Epithelil Tissue
o Connective Tissue
Second Semester (Histology II. CodeHIT- 110):
- Unit 4: General Histology (cont.)
- Muscular tissue
- Nervous tissue
- Unit 5: Special Histology
Course Description for the Second level:
HIT209&210 (Histology III&IV):
Description:
It aims at familiarizing students to systemic histology; histophysiology; histopathology. It provides information about the detailed histological picture of spinal cord, brain stem, cerebellum & cerebrum.
First Semester (Histology III. Code 209):
Systemic histology:
A. Respiratory system
B. Digestive system
C. Endocrine glands
Second Semester (Histology IV. Code 210):
Systemic histology (cont):
A. Urinary,male & female genital systems.
B. Diffuse neuro-endocrine systems
C. Eye & ear
D. CNS (Brain- Brain stem- & Spinal cord).
Teaching Methods
1. Lectures (2 credit hours)
2. Practical sections, ( 1credit hour)
3. Students seminars, oral presentations & prepared essays
Attendance Criteria:
The minimum acceptable attendance is 70 % in order to sit for the final examination
Examination Description:
Formative & Summative exams
- Written, case study & oral exams for assessment of knowledge and understanding
- Practical exams for assessing the practical skills in diagnosis of different tissues under the microscope and projector slides
- Research for training the student how to get medical information from library and internet websites and how to organize and present knowledge.
Mark Distribution:
A total of 100 marks equally divided between the two semesters as follows:
- 30% Year Activity
- 40% Written End-Term Exam
- 30% Practical & Oral End-Term Exam
