report about the training course of “Different inhalers types which are used in the respiratory system diseases”

 The clinical pharmacy unit of the faculty of pharmacy, October 6 University, under the sponsorship of Professor Dr. Mahmoud Kohil, the dean of the faculty of pharmacy has recently organized a training course on Wednesday the 16th of September 2020.


The course was concerned with the identification of the different types of chest inhalers that are used for the treatment of the respiratory system diseases.

The training course was from the first of September until the 16th of September 2020.

Training goals:

Skills development for the faculty of pharmacy students and adapting them for the work fields’ requirements in hospitals and pharmacies.

What the students gained from the course? :

Students were able to identify all kinds of inhalers present in the Egyptian drug market with their constituents’ ex. Corticoids containing inhalers, bronchial dilators, etc……and acquiring the skills of adjusting the needed dose for each kind.

Teaching the students how to correctly use chest inhalers and assuring the right dose was delivered.

Students have learnt all necessary precautions that they should inform the patient about; how to use it, how to ensure the right dose was delivered and how to avoid side effects and specially mouth ulcers and fungi.

The students were introduced to nebulizers and how to dilute their drugs with a saline solution, contrary to what maybe thought that it is diluted with distilled water. They were trained to properly use the nebulizers.

Students were introduced to the spirometer which measures the lungs’ efficiency and its functions and through it lung diseases are diagnosed.

A lecture was given about the respiratory diseases that need inhalers use ex. Asthma, chest allergies and pulmonary embolism.

A workshop has been made, where students were divided into groups and trained to use the different kinds of inhalers.

An assessment was performed to evaluate the degree of achievement that this course has attained and the degree of fulfillment of its goals.

A questionnaire was distributed among the trainees and was analyzed by “quality assurance unit” of the faculty to know the trainees degree of satisfaction towards the course and the trainers. They were also able to write their opinions and suggestions.

The faculty course was conducted by training experts in the respiratory system research work who were invited from the National Center of Research - Dokki - Cairo: Dr. Lobna Samy Younis, the head of the clinical pharmacy, department in the National Research Center, and the member of the Egyptian Drug Organization, was on top of the trainers.

Dr. Ahmed Essam, the demonstrator in the clinical pharmacy department and the coordinator of the clinical pharmacy training courses organized this event.

The event was totally supervised by Assis. Prof. Dr. Samir Osman, vice dean of the faculty and executive manager of the specialized units of the faculty.

The course was attended by 25 students from the faculty.
