Title: Addressing Poverty

Purpose:

To set an outline for reducing poverty and promoting fairness – whether all people have similar rights and opportunities, and basic needs to maintain an acceptable quality of life.

Definition:

Poverty definitions cluster intotwo groups:

Absolute poverty:when people lack necessities for survival. It quantifies the number of people below the poverty line and is independent of place and time.

Relative poverty:when people’s way of life and income is much worse than the general standard of living. It classifies people as poor not by comparing them with a fixed poverty line, but by comparing them with others in the population under consideration

Statement:

O6U Addressing and reducing poverty through:

Education is the key to increasing economic efficiency and social consistency, by increasing the value and efficiency of the labor force and consequently raising the poor from poverty.

Look for the strengths and skills of students and families. Tell them what you believe is good about them. Ask students and families for their help.

Give students and families opportunities to shine. Practice showing empathy instead of sympathy (no one likes people to feel sorry for them).Tell people about opportunities (programs, events, etc.) that you know will put them in a place to build relationships with people who are educated.

Title: Smoke-Free

Purpose

October 6 University aims to provide a healthy environment that promotes the health, well-being, and safety of students, faculty members, administrators, visitors, and any other members of the university's community.

Definitions

Smoking is defined as inhaling, exhaling, burning, or carrying any lighted or heated cigar, cigarette, pipe, hookah, or any other lighted or heated tobacco or product intended for inhalation, including marijuana, whether natural or synthetic, in any manner or any form.  Smoking also includes the use of an electronic smoking device that creates an aerosol or vapor, in any manner or in any form, or the use of any oral smoking device to circumvent the prohibition of smoking in this policy.

Statement

October 6 University is a tobacco and smoke-free campus, the use of tobacco and any smoking products is prohibited on all University property. This policy applies to the entire University community including classrooms, halls, clinics, laboratories, and private offices. Signs are posted at each building's entrances and displayed in prominent, visible areas to inform all individuals entering or occupying October 6 University property that smoking is prohibited inside all buildings.

Title: Women's Applications and Entry

Purpose:

Striving for the establishment of a "safe" university community that guarantees the safety of all and is completely and completely devoid of practicing any form of violence or discrimination against girls and women who are university students, faculty members, employees, or university workers.

Definitions:

 

·         Training and capacity building of male and female faculty members on gender-based violence issues.

·         Organizing awareness campaigns for the external community on women's issues and gender-based violence.  

·         Psychological support and holding group therapy sessions for survivors of violent events or crimes.  

·         Theatrical activity, theatrical workshops, and the use of modern theater techniques in addressing social and feminist issues.  

·         Training and capacity building of women with disabilities in cooperation with the competent authorities and interested civil society organizations.

Statement:

O6U seeks to establish and maintain equal opportunities for women and men, thus promoting gender equality in all spheres of society. All individuals shall have equal opportunities to benefit from their enterprise and to develop their skills irrespective of gender.

Title: Policy of Non-Discrimination Against Women

Purpose
prevent and combat gender serotypes, ensure equal access of women to justice, achieve balanced participation of women and men in decision-making, and different aspects to maintain gender equality

Definitions
•Gender equalityThis means that the different behavior, aspirations, and needs of women and men are considered, valued, and favored equally. It does not mean that women and men have to become the same, but that their rights, responsibilities, and opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female
•Discrimination: The unfair or prejudicial treatment of people and groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.

Statement
O6U is dedicated to achieving gender mainstreaming in all policies and measures, eliminating any form of discrimination or inequality within the University. All facilities of O6U University are available and accessible to all members, irrespective of gender.

Title: Protecting Those Reporting discriminations

Purpose
Protects those reporting discrimination from educational or employment disadvantage

Definitions
Discrimination: the unjust treatment of differentcategories of people, especially on the grounds ofrace, age, gender, or disability.

Statement
An open-door policy guarantees that studentshave access to report any issue that affects theirphysical or mental well-being, whether it is anissue that is study-related or not. The Universityhas a resident psychologist that can providesupport to students when needed. Based on thecase, the issue can be escalated to the relevantdepartments

Title: Water Reuse

Purpose:

Minimize water waste and maximize the role of water reuse around the university facilities.

Definition:

Recycled water: is the practice of reclaiming water from a variety of sources, treating it, and reusing it for beneficial purposes.

Statement:

Water shortage is a major issue in the 6th of October City region, which is a desert metropolis with many manufacturing facilities. Because of the University's foresight, a plan has been developed to assure the continuity of the water supply in the event of such a crisis. Some of the fourteen Faculties, as well as the O6U Hospital, the Hotel and Restaurant, and the library, rely on a reliable water supply to function.

The University implements the latest, most reliable water technology, which allows for water reuse using reclaimed water. Industrial processes like cooling and irrigation rely on this recycled water. For obvious reasons, the recycled water that has been purified isn't fit for human consumption, therefore it's put to better use elsewhere, like watering the plants at the University.

Employment Policy on Discrimination

Purpose: 

Ending any kind of discrimination (based on religion, sexuality, gender, age, .. etc.) in O6U

Definition of discrimination :

Discrimination: the unjust treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, gender, or disability.

Statement:

October 6 University in Egypt aims to protect students, job applicants, and employees from discrimination based on a protected status/characteristic in recruiting, hiring appointment, transfer, promotion, tenure, classification, referral, discharge, layoff, compensation, benefits, job training, tuition assistance, participation in University-sponsored educational, social, and recreational programs, and other aspects of employment. Consistent with applicable law and the Universitys Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures for Employees, this Policy prohibits such discrimination against job applicants and employees based on the following protected statuses/characteristics—age, alienage, caregiver status, childbirth, citizenship status, color, creed, disability, domestic violence victim status, ethnicity, familial status, gender and/or gender identity or expression, marital status, military status, national origin, parental status, partnership status, predisposing genetic characteristics, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, unemployment status, veteran status, and any other legally protected basis.

Title: Employment Policy on Modern Slavery

Purpose: 

State clearly the university’s position against any violation of human rights, especially when it comes to outsourcing and dealing with third parties.

Definition of discrimination :

Modern Slavery: refers to the exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain.

Statement:

The O6U takes a zero-tolerance approach to human rights violations and modern slavery. It is committed to acting ethically in all its negotiations and relations. The university is committed to implementing and applying effective systems and controls which ensure the fact that modern slavery would not occur anywhere in its business.

Employment PAY EQUITY POLICY

Introduction:

OCTOBER 6 UNIVERSITY supports the principle of equal opportunities in employment as per the Egyptian Labor Law Article (35) and believes as part of that principle; all staff shall receive equal pay and treatment.

Purpose:

This policy is set to ensure there is no pay discrimination within the practice and eliminate any systemic bias and discrimination and ensure that all staff is treated on the same basis in terms of compensation for the work they perform.

Scope

This policy applies to all academic and non-academic staff employed by October 6 University including; all faculties, divisions, and departments.

Policy

OCTOBER 6 UNIVERSITY provides equal pay to all staff and is committed to making a pay scale using reasonable standards based on each individual’s qualifications. No person shall be subject to unequal pay based on; race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, age, or status as; an individual with a physical or mental disability unrelated to ability, military status, genetic information, marital status, parental status, ancestry, source of income. This policy includes the commitment to maintaining a work environment free of inequality and discrimination.

All staff should receive equal pay for the same or broadly similar work, for work rated as equivalent, and for work of equal value. All forms of pay are covered by this policy, including; salary, bonuses, social insurance, vacation and holiday pay, reimbursement for travel expenses, and benefits.

Title: Non-discriminatory Admissions Policy

Purpose: 

The 6th of October University preserves justice and equality among students in the provision of educational opportunities in all its forms without regard to religious or social differences and politics.

Definition of discrimination:

The University's admission policy emphasizes the provision of equal opportunities among applicants and the provision of educational and financial grants following the University's policies

Statement:

The 6th of October University in Egypt confirms that all students and employees are equal and that there is no distinction between them. The University is keen to provide all opportunities and grants to reach its beneficiaries without class distinctions, or religious or political issues. There is also a department within the university to study and support financially and academically struggling students

Guidelines Against Discrimination

 

Purpose:

Provide an atmosphere or a locale free from harassment, discrimination, sexual assault, exploitation, and/or retribution.

Definitions:

The non-discriminatory atmosphere provides a locale that ensures and maintains equivalent rights and equal opportunities for all university staff members and students.

Anti-harassment locale refers to a secure and enjoyable atmosphere in which everyone is treated with dignity.

Statement:

October 6 University in Egypt is dedicated to safeguarding learning and working locales that promote and nurture ethical manners among all individuals and respect for different individual beliefs. Atmosphere free of all types of harassment and discrimination, and thus the University embraces and undertakes to impose this Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Strategy and Complaint Practices to promote a workplace clear of harassment, discrimination, sexual assault exploitation, and/or retribution at all levels. Discrimination or harassment based on a person's race, gender, and/or gender identity or expression or orientation, color, culture, faith, religion, age, ethnic origin, nationality, functional limitations, learning difficulties, veteran or family status, genetic mutations, parental/familial/marital/civil status, citizenship, or any other validly unauthorized basis is not only illegal and inappropriate but also negatively affects and impairs the University's image and mission. Such harassment or discrimination contravenes university policy and will not be accepted.

Purpose:

          Access to learning is guaranteed to all individuals wishing to gain it to improve their skills and competencies, with non-discrimination of any kind as to ethnicity, religion, disability, or gender to equally improve knowledge.

Definition

          Lifelong learning is a process of a continuous and self-motivated questfor knowledge initiated by individuals in pursuit of professionalor personal development.
