Obligatory Radiology and Medical Imaging Requirements
MR FUND 402 Fundamental of Radiation Technology
The students are introduced to the history of x-rays. Radiation protection and the role of radiology in the medical fields with introduction to the common modalities in diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, radio-therapy, Body Planes, Projections, Radiographic Recording Devices (RIS-PACs), And Radiological Examinations.
MR ANA 403 General and Cross Sectional Anatomy
The application of this course aims to allow the students to understand the gross and sectional anatomy of the body systems (skeletal system, nervous system, respiratory system, GIT system, urinary system, genital system, cardiovascular system, joints and muscles.
MR NUC 404 Nuclear Medicine (I)
The students are introduced to the nature of radionuclides and the modes of their production helping them to understand the application of labeling radiopharmaceuticals in different nuclear medicine.
MR TECH 405 Imaging Technology (Chest – Upper and Lower Extremes)
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to perform radiographic examinations of (upper and lower extremity, chest), shoulder girdle, pelvis and sacroiliac joint. Under guidance in radiography unit’s student will practice on patient regarding the part positioning for routine and additional projections, equipment handling, selecting exposure factors and all other parameters and completing the procedure by exposure and processing exposed film. Any technical errors noted on processed film will be corrected by repeat examination to gain accuracy. Student will record the lab work in logbook.
MRCE 505 Contrast Examinations
This course aims to help the students to understand how to deal with chemical materials that are used in radiology department, route of administration, modalities that are used, possible complications and how to deal with it and the contrast examinations of the different body systems.
MR TECH 506 Imaging Technology (Skull – Spine)
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to perform radiographic examinations of skull and spine. Under guidance in radiography units student will practice on patients regarding and part positioning for routine and additional projections, equipment handling, selecting exposure factors and all other parameters and completing the procedure by exposure and processing exposed film. MRULTRA 507 Basics of Ultrasound
Students are introduced to understand, ultrasound physics, components of ultrasound machines, probes, the advanced ultrasound technology, Sonoanatomy and ultrasound examinations of (biliary system – urinary system and spleen)
MRCT 508 Computed Tomography Examinations I
The students are introduced to CT imaging requirements and this includes covering the CT physical principles, quality assurance and the CT examinations of the (neurovascular system, abdomen pelvic) and patient manipulation for diagnostic imaging of body systems.
MRDOP 601 Ultrasound and Doppler Examinations I
The aim of this course is to provide the student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to perform sonographic examinations of (salivary glands, scrotum, thyroid gland and pancreas), Doppler physics, and different Doppler protocols. And also introduced to pathological manifestation on the conventional ultrasound and Doppler images on these examinations and the technical variation required producing an optimal diagnostic examination.
MRIME 603 Emergency Radiology I
This course is designed to provide the student with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the different radiological examination techniques, the special care procedures and the precautions which should be considered during examinations for trauma patients.
MR NUC 606 Nuclear Medicine (II)
The students are introduced to the nature of radionuclide’s and the modes of their production, Helping them to understand the application of labeling radiopharmaceuticals in different nuclear medicine and methods of application of radiation protection in nuclear medicine department.
MRMRI 607 Basics of MRI
Students are introduced to MRI imaging requirements and this includes covering the physical principles of MRI, quality assurance and the using of different MRI techniques in medical problems and patient manipulation for diagnostic imaging of body systems. And this course also provide the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to perform the MRI examinations of (brain, spine, abdomen and pelvic)
MRMRI 701 MRI Examinations I
The theoretical knowledge and practical experience to perform the MRI examinations is continued by the examinations of the joints (Knee, shoulder, ankle and the hip). And apply the practical considerations in the related unit with considering the additional projections, equipment handling, and all other parameters and completing the procedure will record the lab work in logbook.
MRRAD 702 Radiotherapy I
This course is applied to give an introduction to the students about of action of different ionizing radiation (x-rays – gamma rays) radiotherapy department, treatment planning, simulator, treatment aids, different radiotherapy equipment, , staff, And patient manipulation for diagnostic radiotherapy.
MRCT 703 Computed Tomography Examinations II
This course is applied to stress on different the CT examinations of the (chest, cardiovascular system) and also introduced to the pathological manifestation on the CT images and the technical variation required producing an optimal diagnostic examination and 3D reconstruction, virtual CT.
MRMRI 704 MRI Examinations & Provisional Diagnosis II
The aim of this course is to provide the students with the pathological manifestation on the MRI images and teach the students to beneficially use what they had learned in the MRI courses about the examinations and pathological manifestations to make an accurate provisional diagnosis on the MRI images.
MRINT 705 Interventional Radiology I
This course is designed to introduce to the students the vascular system radiological anatomy, the different modalities that are used in the interventional examinations, the different interventional procedures and its application in the different interventional techniques.
MRRP 706 Radiological Pathology I
This course is designed to provide the student with the theoretical knowledge to the pathological manifestations of the (chest, heart, mediastinum and lymphatic system) in the radiological images.
MRWOM 804 Women Examinations
This course is applied to help the students to understand the application of the different radiological examinations (mammography – obstetrics and gynecology examinations ultrasound and MRI examinations) for women using different radiological modalities.
MRULT 805 Ultrasound Examinations & Provisional Diagnosis II
The aim of this course is to provide the students with the pathological manifestation on the MRI images and teach the students to beneficially use what they had learned in the MRI courses about the examinations and pathological manifestations to make an accurate provisional diagnosis on the MRI images.
MRCT 806 Computed Tomography Examinations & Provisional Diagnosis III
The aim of this course is to provide the students with the pathological manifestation on the CT images and teach the students to beneficially use what they had learned in the CT courses about the examinations and pathological manifestations to make an accurate provisional diagnosis on the MRI images.
MRRP 807 Radiological Pathology II
This course is designed to provide the student with the theoretical knowledge to the pathological manifestations of the (neurovascular system,) in the radiological images.
MRRAD 808 Radiotherapy II
This course aims to continue teaching students about of action of different ionizing radiation (x-rays – gamma rays) radiotherapy department, treatment planning, simulator, treatment aids, different radiotherapy equipment, , staff, And patient manipulation for diagnostic radiotherapy.
MRRES 809 Research Project
Oral and written presentations on topics of current radiological interest based on literature search the students get acquainted with literature search and oral presentations with the major topics in radiology. The students are encouraged to the library including the electronic one to prepare a thesis under direct supervision of the relevant staff. The course varies according to the current topics selected by the supervisors each year.
Elective Radiology and Medical Imaging Requirements
ERPHYS 410 Radiation Physics
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience of the radiological physics, its applications in different radiological branches, dose calculations and the effect of radiation on staff, patients and environment.
ERBIOL 420 Radiobiology and Radiation Protection
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the radiobiological effects of ionizing radiation on cellular and tissue levels, acute cellular effects, chronic cellular effects, radio sensitivity of cells, specific organs also introduced to the basic principles of radiation protection and its applications in radiology department.
ERBD 430 Bone Densitometry
This course is designed to introduce to the students the different modalities used in bone densitometry, different bone densitometry techniques.
ERINT 440 Interventional Radiology II
This course is designed to stress on the different modalities that are used in the interventional examinations and the different interventional procedures and its application in the different interventional techniques.
ERCATH LAB 530 Coronary Catheterization Examinations
It is a very important and advanced field in radiology which needs an expertise to be performed, so this course provides the student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the different coronary catheterization.
ERPED 540 Pediatric Radiology
This course is applied to help the students to understand the application of the different radiological examinations (conventional, CT, ultrasound and MRI examinations) for Pediatrics using different radiological modalities and understanding the special procedures that is applied in pediatric radiology.
ERMR 550 Emergency Radiology II
The theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the different radiological examination techniques, the special care procedures and the precautions which should be considered during examinations for trauma patients is continued.
ERDIGI 570 Digital Image and Signal Processing
Digital image fundamentals, Spatial and gray level quantization, Algorithms for image enhancement, point processing, spatial filtering, frequency domain, Colour and pseudocolour and applications in radiology and nuclear medicine, image segmentation by thresholding, and morphological operations.
ERQUAL 610 Management and quality Assurance
The aim of this course is to teach the students the advanced methods used for management and the application of quality control in radiology department.
ER EPID 620 Advanced Dental Examinations
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to understand the dental anatomy, radiological modalities and the different dental examination technique
ER PSYC 720 Psychiatry
This course provides the students with fundamental knowledge of psychiatry. This includes the main psychiatric disorders in terms of etiologies, clinical manifestation, and the main treatment modalities including drugs and other therapeutic procedures.
ER EMED 730 Critical care and emergency medicine
This course is designed to provide student with theoretical knowledge and practical experience of the basic principles of caring and acting with the adult patient in the most common critical and emergency situations in radiology department.
EL PUBL 501 Public Health Administration
This course provides the students with the basic principles and components of public health administration and to the different roles of nurse within the different health program in Egypt.
EL COMM 502 Communication and Human Relation
This course will provide the student with the basic concepts related to the human relationships and its application in providing medical services in both the hospital settings and the community.
EL RMETH 503 Methodology
This course introduces the student with basic research concept, language, processes, logic and methods of research in medical laboratory, In addition to the study of measurements that helps in surveying and estimating the factors affecting the community health including basic research and vital statistics.
EL NUTR 602 General and Applied Nutrition
This course aims to give the students good information about the major components of food namely carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, minerals and water with emphasis on daily requirements for normal subject and the nutritional restrictions in certain diseases. Medical problems related to nutrition as obesity, cachexia and nutritional deficiency diseases art to be emphasized
EL EDUC 604 Health Education
This course focuses on health and health behavior. It also focuses on methods, media, health education program, and evaluation. It provides opportunity to the student to utilize basic scientific principles and concepts through teaching programs.
EL EPID 605 Epidemiology
This course aims to give the students a good understanding of the epidemiological data concerning seasonal epidemics. Protection, rapid diagnosis, isolation of patients and prophylactic measure are to be stressed upon.
EL NANO 802 Nanotechnology
This course provides an overview of the materials, safety and equipment issues encountered in the practice of biomedical engineering. The course will address molecular probe engineering, nanomaterials characterization techniques, separation sciences, and applications of nanotechnology in biological detection, sensing, and imaging.
Objectives:
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
· Understand, explain, and discuss scientific papers in the area of molecular engineering and nanotechnology.
· Apply nanotechnology and bioengineering approaches to future research and design projects.
