Within the framework of 6th of October University adopting advanced policies and strategies to reduce the carbon footprint at the campus level, as it is considered one of the important topics that work to raise the university’s classification, in addition to the university’s social responsibility and its effective role in promoting environmental awareness and stimulating joint efforts towards building a more sustainable and balanced society between humans and the environment. The Faculty of Tourism and Hotels organized a symposium entitled: "The Concept of Carbon Footprint, Calculation Methods and Reduction Approach" Sunday - November 3, 2024 Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab (President of the University), Prof. Dr. Hesham Tamraz (Vice President of the University for Community Service Affairs) and Prof. Dr. Hanaa Fayed (Dean of the Faculty), and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ghada Mohamed Wafik (Dean of the Faculty for Community Service Affairs). The symposium was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Rakha, Environmental Consultant for Greater Cairo Governorates, Environmental Affairs Agency. Many faculties of the university participated in the symposium, represented by the faculties of: (Tourism and Hotels, Languages and Translation, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Education, Economics and Administration, Nursing, Medicine and Surgery - Bushra), in addition to some deans, vice deans, carbon footprint teams, faculty members, and students. The symposium aimed to: 1) Raise awareness of the concept of carbon footprint and the factors Influencing it 2) Defining the relative contributions of different activities to increasing the carbon footprint 3) The necessary measures to reduce it, with the aim of achieving sustainability and green growth. The most important recommendations: 1) The necessity of preparing voluntary programs to inventory the sources of greenhouse gas emissions and calculate the carbon footprint. 2) Working to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels of all kinds. 3) Moving towards the use of new and renewable energy such as solar energy.
