 The Faculty of Mass Communication at October 6 University organizes the "Ramadan Drama 2025 Evaluation" Forum

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Faculty of Mass Communication and Communication Arts at October 6 University organized the "Ramadan Drama 2025 Evaluation" Forum, with the participation of a select group of critics, art journalists, and academics. The forum was held under the patronage of Prof. Mamdouh Mustafa Ghorab, President of the University; Prof. Iman El Azizy, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Yasser Dakroury, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; and under the supervision of Prof. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication and Communication Arts. The forum was opened by Prof. Dr. Hesham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication and Arts. They welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of the forum in highlighting the impact of drama on Egyptian society, particularly on social issues and women, and the importance of the drama industry keeping pace with technological developments.
The forum included three main sessions, during which the most prominent current and future issues in Egyptian drama were discussed, in addition to addressing the role of drama in addressing social issues.
The forum began with a session to evaluate Ramadan 2025 dramas, chaired by Prof. Dr. Sami El-Sherif, former Acting Minister of Information, former President of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, and Secretary-General of the Association of Islamic Universities. The session was attended by Dr. Tarek Saada, Head of the Media Syndicate and Member of the Senate; Maged Mounir, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ahram newspaper; Diaa Dandanesh, writer and screenwriter; Ashraf Gharib, art critic; Khaled Mahmoud, journalist critic; Essam Zakaria, film critic; and Ali Al-Kashouti, critic and journalist. Participants in the session discussed the quality of scripts, direction, and artistic performance, as well as the impact of these works on society. The second session discussed the portrayal of women in Ramadan 2025 dramas, chaired by Prof. Dr. Suzan Al-Qalini, member of the Media Committee of the National Council for Women, Chair of the Media Committee of the Council, and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University. Members of the Media Committee of the National Council for Women presented the committee's report, which covered monitoring and analyzing the portrayal of women in Ramadan dramas. The session was attended by Dr. Amal Othman, journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper, and members of the Media Committee of the National Council for Women: Prof. Rasha El-Didi, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University; Dr. Nahed Selim; Professor Ashraf Mofid, expert in artificial intelligence applications; Dr. Narmin Ajwa, Director of the Center for Women's and Media Research and Studies at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University; Dr. Reham Imbaby, member and alternate rapporteur of the Council's Media Committee; and Dr. Lobna Khairy, lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo. The session addressed the role of women in drama productions and how to present their issues in a way that reflects reality and reinforces societal values. The forum concluded with the third session, titled "A Future Vision for Television Drama in Egypt," chaired by Prof. Mona El-Hadidi, Professor of Mass Communication at Cairo University and member of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation. The session discussed the impact of technological changes on the drama industry and how it will develop in the coming years. The session was attended by Dr. Samir Saeed, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Gomhoria newspaper; Moussa Sabry, journalist and head of the Kawakeb magazine; Ahmed Saad El-Din, art critic at Al-Ahram newspaper; Emad Yousry, art critic; and Ahmed El-Nabawy, artist, film critic, and director of the Cairo International Short Film Festival.
At the conclusion of the forum, guests and participants were honored with the Faculty of Media and Communication Arts shield in recognition of their contributions to enriching discussions and providing in-depth insights into the Egyptian drama industry.
Among the most prominent recommendations presented at the forum were:
The need to reformulate the objectives behind dramatic productions to align with the interests of society and reflect positive social values; the need to establish specific standards by which to control the quality of Egyptian drama productions, to ensure the provision of objective and professional content; and the integration of sustainable development goals into drama production.
