The Faculty of Media and Communication Arts at 6th of October University, under the supervision and attendance of Prof. Dr. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid, Dean of the Faculty, organized a distinguished symposium during which it hosted journalist Mohamed Basem, a journalist for Al-Bawaba News website and newspaper and one of the faculty's graduates, to talk about the requirements of the labor market in the media field.
At the beginning of the symposium, Dr. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid welcomed the guest, stressing that the college's keenness to host its distinguished graduates comes within the framework of supporting students with realistic models and successful experiences that inspire them and connect them to the changes in the media industry.
During the meeting, journalist Mohamed Bassem spoke about the most important skills that the media labor market is looking for at the present time, stressing the need for the student to possess a set of basic abilities, the most prominent of which are:
Proficiency in journalistic writing and editing of all kinds according to the standards of professional institutions, language proficiency, mastery of research skills, gathering information and verifying news in light of the spread of digital content, the ability to use artificial intelligence tools in preparing content and dealing with platforms, building a strong professional network of relationships that help in accessing sources and developing job opportunities, flexibility and the ability to work under pressure within newsrooms.
“Bassem” stressed that the media has become an advanced sector that relies on multiple skills, and that institutions are looking for a comprehensive journalist capable of writing, photographing, analyzing, and managing digital accounts, adding that continuous self-development is the key to true success.
At the end of the symposium, students participated with questions about how to start their professional careers, obtain strong training opportunities, and how to build a professional business file. The Dean praised the richness of the dialogue and confirmed that the college will continue to organize events that connect the graduate to his college and connect the student directly to the labor market and its renewed requirements.
Her Excellency presented the College Shield to journalist Mohamed Bassem in appreciation of him. The symposium was organized and coordinated by Dr. Sarah Abdel Aziz, lecturer in the Journalism Department, and Ms. Fatima Mahmoud, assistant lecturer in the Radio and Television Department
