 Dr. Mahmoud Muslim and Professor Islam Afifi at a symposium at 6th of October University.

 
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Mustafa Ghorab, President of 6th of October University, and under the patronage and attendance of Prof. Dr. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and organized and attended by Prof. Dr. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communication Arts, the "Media and National Security" symposium was held, in which the great journalist Dr. Mahmoud Muslim, Member of the Senate, and the great journalist Mr. Islam Afifi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akhbar El-Youm Foundation, lectured Professor Dr. Mamdouh Mustafa Ghorab hosted the guests and welcomed them before the meeting began in his office.
Dr. Mahmoud Muslim began his speech by emphasizing the role of the media in confronting rumors, explaining that rumors have become one of the most dangerous tools used to target the stability of countries, especially in light of their rapid spread through social media. He stressed that the national media represents the first line of defense in refuting rumors, by providing correct information, relying on reliable official sources, and raising public awareness to distinguish between real and misleading news.
He also stressed the importance of enhancing the culture of media verification among students, stressing that an aware journalist is an essential element in protecting society from misinformation, and that the role of the media has become pivotal in supporting national security and confronting modern generation wars.
During his speech, Mr. Islam Afifi stressed the importance of verifying information before publishing, explaining that a professional journalist cannot rely on what is circulated on social media without examination and scrutiny. He pointed out that today's battle for awareness depends on the media's ability to uncover misinformation and distinguish the truth amidst the huge amount of fake news, stressing that the real journalistic scoop lies in the accuracy of the information, not its speed. At the end of the meeting, Professor Dr. Hesham Tamraz and Professor Dr. Dina Farouk Abu Zeid presented the college shield to the guests in appreciation of them.
The symposium was attended by deans, deputies, and faculty members, with a large participation from students from various faculties of the university.
The symposium was organized by the Faculty of Media and Communication Arts at the university, and was co-organized by Dr. Kholoud Maher, Dr. Sarah Abdel Aziz, and Eng.Eng. Fatima Mahmoud and Mr. Israa Hamama.
