Report about the 1st Clinical Pharmacy Workshop at October 6 University
"The Way To Clinical Pharmacy practice "
For Undergraduates and Fresh Postgraduates in all universities at Egypt
- The Faculty of Pharmacy October 6 university has organized a training Clinical pharmacy Workshop under the title of " The Way To Clinical Pharmacy practice " on Saturdays, 10, 17 March, 2017.
- The aim of the training workshop was to promote the intellectual and professional skills of the final-years pharmacy students and postgraduates preparing them for the current pre-requisites for the work market and the field and future of Clinical pharmacy in Egypt.
- The Faculty of pharmacy has recruited a selection of highly professional trainers from among the Practitioners of clinical pharmacy at the biggest Hospitals at Egypt such as Nile Badrawy hospital, international medical center, Al shorouk hospital, national heart institiute, Egypt air hospital and Al moalmen hospital.
- Some important intended learning outcomes (ILOs) of the Clinical Pharmacy course was adopted in the Training Workshop of Clinical Pharmacy.
- The proceedings of the course have focused on the role of clinical pharmacists in designing and following-up of pharmacotherapeutic regimens in the fields of critical care , heart diseases and infectious diseases.
- The training workshop sessions involved detailed study of some clinical cases which clinical pharmacists can encounter in/out hospitals.
- The significance of clinical pharmacists as "drug experts" and "health-care providers" was also discussed.
- evaluation quizzes were performed to assess some the intended learning outcomes of the training course. Significant differences were found between the pre-and-post-training results.
- - A handout and CD of the training course material made available for all trainees.
- - Questionnaires were distributed to the participants and analyzed to determine the extent of satisfaction with the training course content and trainers.
- Training certificates were granted to the trainees at the end of the Work shop by Dr Ahmed Essam .
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the Training Course
The training course is organized to cover some of the following ILOs of the Clinical Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacology courses:
A. Knowledge and Understanding:
By completion of this course, the pharmacy graduate must demonstrate, the knowledge and understanding of:
a.1. The clinical applications of targeted therapies.
a.2. The etiology, clinical features of different diseases and their pharmacotherapeutic approaches.
B. Intellectual Skills:
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
b.1. Recruit pharmacological and pharmacotherapeutic principles in the proper selection of drugs for the management of different diseases.
b.2. Evaluate different situations of adverse drug reactions, interactions and contraindications of different pharmaceutical drug classes.
C. Professional and Practical Skills:
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
c.1. Practice the selection of the appropriate medication therapy for different diseases based on their etiology, patient medical history, possible interactions and age-related factors.
c.2. Advice patients with other health care professionals about the proper safe use of medicines.
D. General and Transferable Skills:
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
d.1. Demonstrate self -learning needed for continuous professional development.
d.2. Perform critical thinking and decision making abilities to solve different problems.
