Rules of Student Admission:
Acceptance of New Egyptian Students:
Registration at the Faculty of Medicine - 6th of October University is allowed for students who have obtained the General Secondary Education Certificate in the Science stream or its equivalent, or for those transferred from other colleges, according to the rules and conditions set by the Private and Community Universities Council annually.
Admission of New International Students:
The admission of new international students is done according to the rules and regulations determined by the Ministry of Higher Education. This is done through direct application to the university via the General Administration for Education and Student Affairs at the university.
Study System: Language of Instruction: The official language of instruction is English, and the college is entitled to verify the student's proficiency in the English language. The study materials and examinations are also in English. However, some elective courses may be taught in Arabic.
Duration of Study and Academic Levels:
The duration of studying for a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery is five academic levels divided into 10 academic semesters, with an average of 180 weeks, not less than five university years, followed by two internship years. Vertical and horizontal integration between courses is implemented at all levels. Integration of subjects within the curriculum occurs between core subjects and clinical subjects, with the percentage of clinical subjects gradually increasing with the academic level.
Credit Hours: Students are required to complete 200 credit hours during their study period. Each credit hour is equivalent to 25 grades, except for elective and professional courses, which follow the pass/fail system.
Academic Advising: Students are assigned to academic advisors who are members of the faculty and assistant faculty at the college. The academic advisor guides students during the registration process, monitors their academic performance and progress, assists them in overcoming difficulties they may face, motivates high-achieving students, guides struggling students, identifies students with behavioral issues or special circumstances, and directs them to the relevant departments. The academic advisor prepares a monthly report for the specialized academic level coordinator.
Academic Workload: For the spring and fall semesters, each semester has an academic workload ranging from 18 to 21 credit hours. It is permissible to exceed this limit by three credit hours per semester at the graduation level. The summer semester has a workload of nine credit hours, and it is also permissible to exceed this limit by three credit hours at the graduation level. The theoretical credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours, the practical credit hour is equivalent to 30 contact hours, the clinical credit hour is equivalent to 30 contact hours, and the field training credit hour is equivalent to 45 contact hours. Each contact hour is equal to 45-60 actual minutes.
Student Registration: Before the start of each academic semester, students are required to register for their courses according to the procedures determined by the college and university administrations. This should be done after consulting their academic advisor and fulfilling the registration requirements. The registration, drop, add, and withdrawal deadlines are subject to the regulations set by the Supreme Council of Universities and the university administration.
Attendance: The study at the Faculty of Medicine, 6th of October University, is on a regular basis. Students are expected to attend theoretical, practical, clinical, and research classes. The college council has the right to prevent a student from taking some or all of the scheduled exams if they have an absence rate exceeding 25% of the required attendance hours. In such cases, the student is considered to have failed the course. The remaining students who need to retake the course are required to attend regularly, just like new students.
Academic Absence: If a student is absent from studying or fails to register for any courses in the current level, they will be considered to have failed those courses.
Temporary Suspension: Students or their guardians who wish to temporarily suspend their enrollment must submit a request accompanied by the required documents to the college council. This should be done within one month from the start of the academic year. It is not permissible to suspend enrollment in previous semesters. The duration of the suspension is one academic year, not exceeding a total of two academic years throughout the study period.
Maximum Duration of Study and Disciplinary Measures: The law regulating universities and its executive regulations apply to disciplinary measures and dismissal from the college. No student can claim ignorance of these regulations or lack of access to the announcements published by the university or college concerning these instructions. The college council decides in cases not covered by these regulations and in cases where disputes arise regarding their implementation. The following are the rules for dismissal from the college:
The maximum duration of study for the first and second levels combined is four years. The maximum duration for the entire study period is ten years, including excuses, enrollment suspension, and retaking due to failure.
The same rule is immediately applied to a student who exceeds the maximum remaining years of study without waiting for them to be exceeded.
A student who obtains a cumulative GPA of less than 2 in any academic semester receives an academic warning, and the student is dismissed if they receive six consecutive warnings.
Transfers: The number of students accepted for transfers is determined according to the decisions of the Supreme Council of Private and Community Universities. At the end of each academic year, the college council determines the distribution of accepted students for transfer to the first, second, and third levels in the following academic year from colleges that apply a comparable curriculum after conducting a comprehensive evaluation. Transfers to the fourth and fifth levels are not allowed.
Tuition Fees: A student is not considered enrolled in the college until they have paid the specified tuition fees.
