Under the patronage of Prof. Gamal Sami, President of 6th of October University, and Prof. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, the Sector of Community Service and Environmental Development organized a seminar to raise awareness about diabetes coinciding with the celebration of World Diabetes Day. The seminar was moderated by Prof. Amr Nadim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at 6th of October University.

During the seminar, Prof. Manal Rashdi Al-Masri, Professor of Internal Medicine, Hepatology, and Diabetes, and former Dean of Kasr Al Ainy School of Medicine, Cairo University, discussed the types of diabetes, preventive measures, and the reasons behind the increasing number of diabetes patients in Egypt. She also highlighted the role of the "100 Million Health" campaign in raising awareness about diabetes and addressed common questions about the disease, including the misconception of complete recovery from diabetes.

Additionally, Dr. Mona Ahmed Amin spoke about gestational diabetes in pregnant women, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and how to deal with different types of diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes. Brigadier Dr. Mohamed Abdelhamid, a consultant in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the Police Hospitals, discussed the dangers of fast food, which is one of the main causes of diabetes. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, consuming fiber and vegetables in large quantities, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking.

Furthermore, Prof. Abeer Ahmed Abdel-Maksoud, a pediatrician specializing in endocrinology at Ain Shams University, addressed diabetes in children, which has been increasing since 2006. She explained the progression of the disease, starting with children who have a genetic predisposition based on their genetic makeup, followed by children who are at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes due to significant weight gain. This type of diabetes is usually not detected until ten years later. In health initiatives within schools, it was discovered that 12% of school children suffer from obesity. She also highlighted the differences between type 2 diabetes in children and adults.

The seminar was attended by deans, vice deans for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs from various faculties, students from different colleges, and a number of interns. Awareness brochures on diabetes prepared by the Faculty of Pharmacy were distributed to the attendees. Prof. Amr Nadim presented the university's shield to the distinguished guests, expressing gratitude for their presence.
