 Committee for Strategic Planning

Vision:

The vision of the Committee for Strategic Planning is to enhance the role of the Faculty as a competitive educational institution in the field of language learning and boost its ability to contribute to society and environmental development.

Mission:

The mission of the Committee is to maintain ongoing assessment of the status of the Faculty. This is to be done through analysis of weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, and challenges (environmental analysis) to recommend plans and procedures for further improvement and development of the educational process efficiency.

Objectives of the Committee:

1.      To designate policies and procedures that fulfill the strategic objectives of the Faculty.

2.       To revise the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the Faculty, reformulate them if necessary, and set procedures to guarantee continuous update according to the current changes.

3.      To assist the Committee for Curriculum Development to review the mission and objectives of each program and recommend amendments in the light of the latest developments to help achieve the desired objectives.

4.      To assist the Committee for Curriculum Development in restructuring the curricula and guarantee that they follow the National Academic Reference Standards (NARS), the mission of the Faculty, and the needs of the beneficiaries.

5.      To guarantee that the course descriptions follow the Reference Standards (NARS), which provide the graduates with the skills needed for the job market.

6.      To set procedures for updating the organizational structure of the Faculty and establishing new units.

7.      To document the code of ethics of the Faculty and set procedures to guarantee its implementation. These include:

·         An announced and documented guiding framework of the rights of intellectual property and publication, just practices, and professional ethics.

·         A designated plan that encompasses (courses, conferences, meetings, and publications) to spread awareness of the code and rights of intellectual property and procedures to allocate any violations.

·         A guide to academic administrative and professional practices.

·         Questionnaires to assess how far the employees abide by these codes.

8.      To set procedures for electing academic chairs, heads of departments, and other posts, and reviewing the plans followed for further development.

9.      To cooperate with the Quality Assurance Center to develop the human resources concerned with strategic planning in the Faculty through training courses made by the Center.

10.  To allocate the requirements for further boosting self-learning, scientific research, and community service in bachelor’s and postgraduate stages.

11.  To set a strategic plan for the Faculty related to the University plan to further develop all the factors that participate in education, self-learning, scientific research, and community service in bachelor’s and postgraduate stages.

12.  To encourage the graduates to enroll in the master’s program of the Faculty.

13.  To set follow-up procedures to supervise the performance of the employees in the Faculty and set a training program to boost the quality of their performance.

14.  To raise the Faculty employees’ awareness of the importance of the role of strategic planning.

15.  To set a plan to spread awareness among members of the teaching staff, students, and beneficiariesof the mission of the Faculty.

16.  To determine the responsibilities and powers of academic and administrative chairs (job description).

Required Documents:

1.      Accredited and documented copy of the strategic plan of the Faculty.

2.      Copy of the environmental analysis record (that encompasses the inner and outside environments of the Faculty, and a matrix of the points of weakness and strength/chances and threats).

3.      Records of the participation of the various parties involved in the environmental analysis from within and outside the Faculty (including students, members of the teaching staff, employees, businessmen, employers, providers of financial aid, and graduates).

4.      Accredited and announced record of the organizational structure of the Faculty – i.e. procedures for updating the organizational structure.

5.      Accredited and certified copy of the mission, vision, and strategic objectives of the Faculty.

6.      Record of the means of announcing the mission, vision, strategic objectives and records of the participation of various internal and external parties.

7.      Accredited and documented record of the policies of teaching and learning, scientific research, community service, financial policies...etc. of the Faculty, and the plan of the Faculty to develop these policies.

8.      Record of the means of announcing the policies of the Faculty in the above-stated fields.

9.      Accredited record of the means used to announce the Faculty-related information and supervise its authenticity and credibility (including websites, publications, advertisement, list of departments responsible …etc.).

10.  Accredited, certified, and announced job descriptions for all academic and administrative posts in the Faculty.

11.  A record of the action plan undertaken to implement the strategy of the Faculty. This record should include the required activities and tasks, means of implementation, list of the responsible department, due date, outputs, and achievement indications.

12.  A record that demonstrates how the strategy of the Faculty accords with that of the University.

13.  A record of the distinctive features of the Faculty and its role in society – the current and future competitive status of the Faculty compared to local, regional and international peer universities.

14.  Accredited and announced list of the specialized administrative departments related to the Faculty (including the departments of student affairs, graduates, financial department, cultural relations, community services …etc.).

15.  Approved decision issue of the Languages and Translation Center (aspecial character unit) with the training plan required.

16.  Approved and announced decision issue of the accreditation of the Quality Assurance Unit in the Faculty and its organizational structure.

17.  Documented and announced record of the responsibilities and activities of the Unit.

18.  A record of the memos, meetings, and problem-solving reports of the board of the Quality Assurance Unit on the level of the official councils of the University.

19.  The means undertaken by the Unit to implement its activities (including feedback documents, reports of external supervisors, and documents of internal flow).

20.  An accredited record for forming specialized committees in the Faculty and their executive plans.

21.  Accredited and announced procedures for receiving and handling the complaints and suggestions received, inclusive of actual samples of the resolutions undertaken in response to the given complaints and the complainer’s awareness of the results.

22.  Documented and announced list of the procedures undertaken by the Faculty to abide by the rights of intellectual property (authorship and publication).

23.  Record of the means undertaken to spread awareness of the culture of intellectual property in the Faculty (including printouts, meetings, and conferences).

24.  Procedures to undertake just practices and avoid discrimination between members of the teaching staff, employees, and students, including:

-          Accredited documents for the distribution of tasks of supervision, teaching, incentives, rewards, and appointment of members of the teaching staff.

-          Accredited documents for the workloads and incentives of the administrative members and employees.

-          Accredited documents for the equal education and assessment offered to the students.
