The Chinese Language Program's Message:
Graduating cadres who are fluent in Arabic and Chinese and possess linguistic, scientific, critical, cultural, literary and research skills that enable them to work in various fields to support community service and communication between different cultures.
Objectives of the Chinese Language Program:
The College of Languages and Translation adopts the National Academic Standards (NARS) for the Languages Sector, which were set to ensure academic performance leading to outputs that carry the specifications required by the local and national labor market while maintaining competitiveness in the Arab world. The adoption of these national academic standards was approved by the Council of the College of Languages and Translation on 2/27/2014.
Objectives: (General and specific specifications for a graduate of the Chinese Language Department program):
The Chinese Language Program aims to prepare a graduate whose abilities enable him to:
1. Improving the students’ basic language skills such as speaking, listening , reading and writing to meet the job market requirements.
2. Focusing on the written translation skills as a main focus of the program, which gives the graduate the ability to master the art of translation from Arabic to Chinese and vice versa.
3.Study the Arabic language and culture to overcome the difficulties of translation.
4.Focusing on the research skills to broad the students’ minds and make them able to criticize using modern technological means in accordance to the academic research rules.
5.Studying a second foreign language as an additional support for the students’ knowledge and language skills.
6.Reading books and literary texts that represent different eras in the culture of the language of specialization, a conscious reading that gives the student the opportunity to get to know the most important writers, different arts, and genres of literature.
7.Understanding the distinctive characteristics of literary texts (poetic, theatrical novelistic) and different literary trends.
8. Showing respect for other opinions, communicating and interacting positively with other cultures while preserving his/her cultural and national identity; in addition to, knowing his/her rights and duties.
9. learning how to criticize literary texts according to the criticism theories in different eras in the Chinese Culture.
10. learning how to do the discourse analysis of any Chinese language text.
11. Interacting with the Chinese language, familiarity with its intellectual and artistic production and its developments, and the ability to perceive its comprehensive civilizational framework and the characteristics of its culture.
12. being familiar with the principles of phonetics and commitment to the correct pronunciation of the Chinese language, the science of derivation and morphology, and the structure and formation of words in the Chinese language.
13. Using computers and modern means of technology and communication to view, study and search for information.
14. Developing Logical thinking and scientific and artistic creativity.
15. Employing knowledge to achieve achievements at the personal and academic levels and placing them within an ethical framework that aims to serve societal and environmental goals.
